The Benet Academy boys’ basketball team improved to 9-0 and 5-0 in the East Suburban Catholic Conference, with a lopsided 61-39 home win over St. Patrick (6-3, 2-1) on Dec. 12, and the wins keep on coming for Coach Gene Heidkamp who last week made history as the school's winningest coach.
The previous two games the Redwings beat Joliet Catholic 69-49 on Dec 5 and then took a 51-45 win over Carmel on Dec. 8. The win against Joliet Catholic made Gene Heidkamp the top coach in Benet Academy boys’ basketball history with 368 wins. He now sits at 370 wins and counting.
Against the Shamrocks the Redwings went up 12-5 early, and while the St. Patrick woke up in the second quarter, it was a 25-17 lead at halftime.
In the third quarter Benet Academy outscored the Shamrocks 20-15, fueled by a fantastic three point shooting performance. They wrapped up the game in dominant fashion, outscoring the Shamrocks 16-7 down the stretch.
Sophomore Gabe Sularski led the Redwings with 14 points, six boards and six assists on the night.
The Redwings take on conference rival Marist at home on Dec. 15 at 7 p.m.
